Western Washington University senior outfielder/designated player Morgan Parkerson has been selected to play on the Great Britain Senior National Softball Team that will compete in the European Women's A Pool Championships this summer at Valencia, Spain.

Great Britain is ranked No.5 in Europe and hopes to finish in the top three in the European Championships in order to qualify for the 2010 World Championships.

Parkerson, whose parents are both teachers for the U.S. Department of Defense in Great Britain, first tried out for the national team in 2006 and played with the squad in a preparation tournament before it went to Beijing. But she couldn't be selected to the team because she did not have British citizenship. Now, having dual citizenship, Parkerson is expected to play an important role on the squad.

Parkerson is beginning her fourth year at Western. She was a Great Northwest Athletic Conference academic all-star last season.
