COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Perry repeats as Vikings' top offensive player

Senior quarterback Adam Perry received Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight season and also was the Captain's award recipient at the Western Washington University Football Awards Banquet on Sunday, Nov. 30, at the Best Western Lakeway Inn.

Defensive Player of the Year accolades went to sophomore free safety Zach Schrader, and junior Rick Copsey was the Special Teams Player of the Year.

Senior center Dan Trask was the Offensive Lineman of the Year for the second consecutive time, and sophomore end Nick Rocco was the Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Senior quarterback Tony Gardiner received the Coach Terry Todd Most Inspirational Award and sharing the Charles Lappenbusch Memorial Coaches Award were senior offensive tackle Chris Corey and senior defensive tackle Shea Thorstad.

Junior strong safety Danny Cumming was the Senior Scholar-Athlete recipient and redshirt freshman linebacker Hunter Spencer was the Freshman Scholar-Athlete.

The Lou Parberry Strength Award went to senior wide receiver Pat McCann, and the Chet Ullin Memorial Viking Spirit Award went to Ed Roddy, Vice-President of KeyBank.

Scout Team Player of the Year honors went to redshirt freshman wide receiver Kirt Terry-Springs on offense and redshirt freshman linebacker Chad Tester (Port Orchard/South Kitsap) on defense.

Western is 5-5 overall, placing second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference at 5-3, and will play Colorado Mines in the Dixie Rotary Bowl at noon on Saturday, Dec. 6 in St. George, Utah.
