Shane Simmons’ professional football career could be put on hold for a little while.
The former Western Washington University standout was placed on waivers and released by the Oakland Raiders last week after signing with the team in April.
Simmons, from Kent, joined the Raiders as an undrafted free agent two months ago. He participated in Oakland’s rookie minicamp in May and in a full team minicamp earlier in the month before being waived on June 12.
Simmons led the North Central Conference in tackles last season with 125 and was a firstteam NCC all-star. He can still be invited to an NFL training camp in July and attempt to make the roster.
