PeaceHealth is being resilient and unwavering, due to a moral conviction, especially in the midst of sacrifice and suffering is a quality that inspires most. People like Rosa Parks, William Wilberforce and Nelson Mandela provoke us to good works. Why, then, is a recent letter writer "offended," instead of inspired, by PeaceHealth's stand for life?
The writer calls PeaceHealth's values "questionable." To value another human being's life, even when most of society would write them off is not questionable, that's noble.
We ought to applaud PeaceHealth's decision to stand with conviction, rather than follow the crowd. They are governed by a higher source: they believe there is a Creator and only the Creator can give and take life.
I sincerely ask all of us to respect PeaceHealth's conviction. They believe it's wrong for a person to take his or her own life. Like so many who supported initiative 1000, PeaceHealth also believes in compassion. Additionally, they value and support life, even to the very end. How can anyone ask them, much less demand them, to surrender such a noble value?
I am inspired by PeaceHealth's unwavering conviction.
