Vote local with your shopping dollars

Now that the election is over, let's remember that we vote each and every day.

Our dollars are votes: I choose to cast my vote and buy locally made foods and products.

Want to support farmland in Whatcom County and discourage sprawl? Buy food grown from farmers that live here.

Value the arts? Buy something from an artist at art walk, shop for presents at local craft fairs or take a friend to a play, dance performance or local music venue.

Did Fairhaven's charm play a part in your move to Bellingham? (It did for me.) Then use your dollars to vote local and keep our unique shops thriving in our downtown commercial districts.

Especially if you are spending less this year, your vote counts more than ever. It may be buy local week, but I think we should encourage investing in our neighbors all 52 weeks a year.
