Now that the election is finally over, it's time to unite in causes of greater importance.

The first thing I did was to go to my pantry to see what canned and boxed food I may have bought and ultimately decided that I didn't need. I boxed it up to take to my local food bank. I hope that everyone will do the same as we get closer to the holidays - especially this year with all of the people that are finding life's necessities hard to come by.

And let's not forget about all of the pets that share our homes and hearts. After having volunteered for many years at an animal rescue organization I was just amazed at how many older and disabled folks who went without their own food, and sometimes medications, so that they could afford to buy pet food for their furry companions. In many of these cases these people had nothing else to love and care about.

So I ask everyone to please add a can or box of cat or dog food on your next shopping trip and take it to a local shelter for distribution to help those who have great compassion, but little money.
