The Bellingham Herald's article today regarding a re-routing process for BNSF rail shows an astonishing failure of priorities by the city of Bellingham.
The discussion of routing near Cornwall Avenue, with no apparent regard for the pedestrian rail-crossing at Boulevard Park - where the recent death of a bike rider still awaits resolution from the city's bureaucracy - is callus and results in zero faith in the city of Bellingham to step up and do the tough work of real improvements for its citizenry.
BNSF has always taken the position that when it comes to rail-crossings it is their way or the highway. Is this how weak the city of Bellingham is?
To squander an opportunity to make real improvement for its citizenry or hold BNSF accountable at the bargaining table to work cooperatively to resolve this unanswered problem.
