The defending Class 2A girls' golf individual state champion will be sticking around Bellingham for a few more years.
Bellingham High School's Claire Rachor signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday, Nov. 19, to play golf for Western Washington University beginning next fall.
Rachor won the state title as a junior last spring, one year after she finished second as a sophomore and two years after her 16th-place finish as a freshman. Rachor was part of two state championship teams her sophomore and freshman seasons, and the Red Raiders finished third behind Sehome and Burlington-Edison last spring.
"She definitely was our first choice and was really the only girl that we were recruiting," Western coach Bo Stephan said in a WWU press release. "We feel she is a person that we can build our team around and accomplish our No. 1 goal, which is winning a national title ... The potential she has is huge. We're just super excited to have her next year."
Western was ranked No. 10 in the latest Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll. The Vikings have won one tournament title and placed second in two others so far this season.
FERNDALE GAME SITE MOVED
The Ferndale football team's Class 3A state quarterfinal against Camas Union has been moved. Unfortunately for Golden Eagles fans, it's still on the other side of the state in Vancouver.
The game will now be played at McKenzie Stadium. Kickoff is still set for 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, for a game featuring two teams that enter with unbeaten records.
