COURTNEY VAN BROCKLIN

School: Mount Baker Sports: Volleyball, basketball, track and field Year: Senior What she did: Named the Northwest Conference’s most valuable player in volleyball and girls’ basketball … Helped lead Mount Baker to the state tournament in volleyball … Also ran track in the spring … Named to the Associated Press’ all-state team in both volleyball and basketball … Averaged 23.2 points to lead the NWC in scoring in girls’ basketball … Was a leader for the Mountaineers at setter in volleyball … Will play basketball at Boise State University next season. Coach’s quote: “I think that the one thing about Courtney is that she is somebody who has kind of dedicated herself to the process. She’s an amazing athlete, but she also puts the work behind it. She’s probably one of the hardest workers to come through the program, and it shows on the court. That’s why she is who she is; she’s worked hard at it. She’ll be missed. BRIANNE RYAN

School: Lynden Christian Sports: Volleyball, basketball Year: Senior What she did: Named the Class 1A girls’ basketball player of the year by the Associated Press after helping Lynden Christian to an undefeated season and a state championship … Also a standout volleyball player who was an honorable mention all-state player at setter … Graduated as Lynden Christian’s all-time leading scorer in basketball … Averaged 16.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.4 steals while shooting 48 percent from the field … Became the first Class 1A girls’ player to be invited to the Washington- Oregon all-star basketball game … Will play basketball at Eastern Washington next season. Coach’s quote: “She just brings a complete player offensively and defensively. She’s a great rebounder, a strong passer and a great finisher. ERIKA RAMSTEAD

School: Nooksack Valley Sports: Volleyball, basketball, softball Year: Junior What she did: Helped the Pioneers to the state tournament in volleyball, girls’ basketball, and softball this season … Named to the all-Northwest Conference first team in basketball and softball and the conference second team in volleyball … Finished with a 0.98 earned run average as a pitcher with 240 strikeouts and an 18-9 record … As a basketball player, scored 12.3 points per game and had 8.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and almost a block per game to lead Nooksack Valley in all categories … Provided a big block and a big swing for the Pioneers in volleyball … As a junior, she should start attracting attention from colleges next year. Coach’s quote: “She’s kind of the hammer on defense that other team’s don’t have. She’s never going to give anyone an easy time of it. BRONWYN CROSSMAN

School: Squalicum Sports: Cross country, track and field Year: Senior What she did: Won her second straight Class 3A state cross country championship this season, finishing the 3-kilometer race in 18 minutes, 46 seconds … Also won the Class 3A state championship in the 3,200 this season and finished eighth in the 1,600 … Helped the Storm to a third place team finish in cross country after leading the team to a championship last season … Named the Bellingham Herald’s Girls’ Athlete of the Year as a junior … Called the hardest worker that longtime running coach Tim Irvin has been around … Will run at the University of Oregon next season. Coach’s quote: “Bronwyn is very inspirational. After three consecutive years of finishing second in the 3,200,Bronwyn finally finished first this year after a very difficult spring. You could always find Bronwyn training in the offseason. It didn’t matter what the conditions or how she felt, she was always working.”— Squalicum track coach Chris Benson

BECCA FRIDAY

School: Bellingham Sports: Cross country, track and field Year: Junior What she did: Won her second straight Class 2A state track and field title in the 800-meters, finishing with a time of two minutes, 15.94 seconds … Also finished third in the 1,600 … Ran the anchor leg of Bellingham’s 4X400 relay team that finished second at state … Placed seventh at the Class 2A state cross country meet while helping the Red Raiders to a runner-up finish … Also won the 1,600 at the Brooks Washington/ Oregon Meet of Champions … Named the Bellingham Herald’s All-Whatcom County Girls’ Track and Field Athlete of the Year … Should be considered a contender for a state cross country title next fall. Coach’s quote: “I think to defend her 800 title is a tribute to her character. Becca never complains. So few people know that she had a foot injury at the end of April that reduced her running mileage to about 8-10 miles per week for a while. I also think her performance at the Lake Washington Invitational (1,500 in 4:34 and 800 in 2:13) deserves notice.
