Sehome High School can add head girls’ basketball coach to its list of open coaching positions.
Ed Wissing is leaving the Mariners’ program after two seasons to accept a similar position as the head girls’ basketball coach at Shorecrest High School. Wissing led Sehome to the state tournament in both of his seasons with the Mariners, including a fourth-place finish at the Class 2A state tournament in 2007.
Wissing began looking for another opportunity after learning that his contract as a history teacher at the high school was not going to be renewed next year due to budget cuts.
“Shorecrest was just a great fit for me,” Wissing said in a phone interview. “They had both positions available, my dad taught in the Shoreline school district, and I have some family down there.”
The Mariners finished 15-11 last season under Wissing, reaching the state tournament but losing their first two games. Wissing also served as an assistant coach on the boys’ soccer team and the girls’ swimming team.
“I’m going to miss my colleagues, and the students, and the athletes,” Wissing said.
Along with a head girls’ basketball coach, Sehome will be looking for a head boys’ soccer coach after longtime coach Jon Fleck’s recent resignation.
