A: "It comes from approximately 485 dairy farms owned by Washington families. About 140 of those are located in Whatcom County. The milk is picked up at the farms and taken to a number of processing plants located around the state; there is one in the Lynden area. It is processed into products like fluid and powdered milk, or butter or cheese, and usually sold at retail very close to where it was made."

— Blair Thompson, consumer communications manager, Washington Dairy Products Commission

"Most of the milk that we sell comes from Darigold, purchased from farms around the state. The milk is processed in Seattle. Most of the Darigold milk from Whatcom County actually goes to Lynden to be processed into powdered milk."

— Sue Cole, public affairs director, Brown & Cole
