BELLINGHAM -- For all those country kings and queens out there, Bellingham band Sweetheart of the Rodeo will make you fall in love.

The band's vocalist and guitar player, Stell Newsome, gives The Bellingham Herald a hint of what the band is all about.

Question: How would you describe the music of Sweetheart of the Rodeo?

Answer: American music that tries to have all the instruments combine into one creature that transcends the personalities of individual band members.

Q: Who's in the band aside from you on guitar and vocals?

A: Tommy Forster Jr. is on drums, Bruce Shaw is on bass and Kevin Keyheart is on keys and vocals.

Q: Who or what inspires your music?

A: We're influenced by Gram Parsons, Hank Williams and The Rolling Stones.

Q: So how long have you been playing together and how did the band come together?

A: We've been together for eight years. We started playing weekly at the Grand Ave. Alehouse in 2000 so that we could have a forum to wear our cool country clothes.

Q: Do you have any big plans on the horizon?

A: We're working on some recordings and plan on playing more regionally in the future.
