NAMPA, Idaho - Forward Lucy Miller had three goals and added an assist as the Western Washington University women's soccer team won its seventh straight game, defeating Northwest Nazarene University 5-0 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game on Saturday, Oct. 11.

The Vikings, ranked No.13 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America/NCAA Division II Coaches Poll and the top team in the West Region ratings, improved to 10-2-0 overall and remain atop the GNAC standings at 6-0-0.

The winning streak is the longest of the last two decades for the Vikings, although they did have an eight-match unbeaten streak in 1991 that included two ties. Western has outscored its opponents 18-3 in the seven-game charge.

Miller, who entered the day with two goals in 11 games, assisted as Molly Shannon scored the opening goal in the ninth minute, then scored herself with a 25-yard blast in the 33rd minute.

Shannon notched a second goal in the 54th minute off an assist from Claire Morgan, then Miller closed the scoring with goals in the 77th and 89th minutes, Kelly Gagne and Samantha Sommer getting the assists.

"Miller and Shannon played fantastic, as did Jenny Barton, who is from Boise," said Western coach Travis Connell in a press release. "It was a challenge to have to travel here and to play in some inclement weather. It was very windy and cold, but the women played well and got a good result."

Western goalkeeper Kylie Broadbent made four saves in earning her sixth shutout of the season. The Vikings had a 20-6 advantage in shot attempts.
